Memories of Canada

Back in 2003, I had cause to make one or two visits to Canada, principally to the eastern side, including Montreal, Ottawa and Quebec. Since the visits, I am in possession of a wish to make the move across the Atlantic and start a new life there.

As a boy, my memories of being raised in the United Kingdom are of hot summers and cold winters. Something that appears to have changed beyond all recognition now. Maybe it's a distorted memory, or perhaps the memory of a kid, but the idea of returning to seasons that you've been brought up with, appears actually appealing.

though the winters I remember as a kid looked cold, they're nothing in relation to the winters experienced by the Canadians. The times I spent in Canada were typically in the winter and it was very cold. Living in the United Kingdom, particularly Britain , brings the standard problem each year. One cold snap and the entire country grinds to a halt. Though the conditions in Canada appear inhospitable compared to that of the United Kingdom, they appear to cope way better than we do.

In bleak contrast to the winter, the summers in Canada appear truly hot. Just winter and summer? That's what appeals to me most about Canada. Well, that, the people and the facility to breathe. It's not that I am talking about inhaling a literal demeanour, more a form of space to respire.

The United Kingdom isn't one of the largest places on Earth and space is starting to become more limited. There's far less space to live and folks are crammed into apartments and terraces the dimensions of shoe boxes, solely for the luxurious of living in London. Sure, London is a great town, but the idea of having the room to respire appears really appealing. This year I'm hoping to return to Canada and experience the openness of the country and of the people there. In all of the visits I made there, I found the Canadians to be nice and really mannered.

That's such a pleasant thing to experience in today's "no time for anyone" society we reside in.

One thing that sticks in my mind about the Canadians, is the fact they're so happy to be Canadian. In my viewpoint it is justified and I cannot wait to make the hop across the Atlantic and experience some more of that Canadian hospitality. Not only for me, except for anybody else who is taking a look at moving there.
